We Need More Men in Health Care

Presented by: Mobile Kappa League

Kappa League Alums Garrod Jackson and Gary L. Johnson were guest speakers on The Mobile Kappa League’s remote meeting entitled We Need More Men in Health Care.

Garrod Jackson’s unique perspective as a nurse anesthetist gives insight to how growth can be foreseeable, with the right mentorship. He annotated verbally that aligning oneself in positive, uplifting environments such as the Guide Right program can make all the difference, giving credit to individuals that came before him.

The perspective that Gary Johnson stated was not too different, as having mentors was a central theme throughout the meeting. Johnson also added that being initially interested in Kappa League was due to the respect the City of Mobile bestowed upon the Mobile Kappa League organization.

Health literacy for black males and representation in healthcare settings have important significance in increasing quality of life and lifespan of the family.

While having more males in Health Care is an important topic, Kappa Leaguer moderator De’Vion Lewis also suggested that increasing Black Male leadership in healthcare is also important.

This article is made possible by the generosity of the Mobile Kappa League and Carl Cunningham Jr. Ph.D.
